Brussels, 4 March 2010 - Eucomed, the European Medical Technology Industry Association, is pleased to announce that the MedTech Museum has been updated to include a brand new section on eye disorders. The museum now includes a plethora of information on several conditions of the eye, their treatment options, historical overviews and much more, all presented in an engaging, state-of-the-art 3D environment.
Worldwide, around 45 million people are blind and 135 million have only partial sight. This number could double by 2020. "From cataract to glaucoma and macular degeneration, eye disorders are one of the most common forms of disability and proper information adapted to a wide-ranging audience is an important asset in discovering these disorders at an early stage. The Eucomed MedTech Museum wants to offer its visitors a comprehensive, engaging tool to find out more about these conditions and how medical technology is transforming people's lives," John Wilkinson, Chief Executive of Eucomed said on the launch of the new section.
The Eucomed MedTech Museum is a first of its kind and aims at better informing policy-makers, journalists and patients about the benefits of medical technology, and at increasing awareness and understanding of our sector. Split over three floors, the museum offers a wealth of information on topics such as the difference between medical devices and pharmaceuticals, the contribution of medical technology to the EU economy, what medical technology will look like in the future and much more.
